Installation Instructions
Professional installation guide following NHBC guidelines and building regulations for optimal performance of your Anti-Damp Vent system.
Installation Overview
Building Regulations Spacing
- • DPC Level: 1 vent every 900mm (4 bricks)
- • Above Lintels: 1 vent every 450mm (2 bricks)
- • Cavity Trays: 1 vent every 450mm (2 bricks)
Installation Types
- • New Build: Place between bricks during construction
- • Retrofit: Replace existing weep vents or drill new openings
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
New Build Construction
Step 1: Planning Vent Positions
Mark out vent positions according to building regulations:
- Every 900mm (4 bricks) along the DPC
- Every 450mm (2 bricks) above lintels and cavity trays
- Ensure vents align with cavity space
Step 2: Installation During Bricklaying
Simply place Anti-Damp Vents between bricks during construction:
- Position vent flush with external wall face
- Ensure full contact with cavity
- Bed in mortar as normal
- Check vent is level and secure
Step 3: Enhanced Ventilation (Optional)
For optimal results, install additional vents at ceiling level:
- Use same spacing as DPC level (900mm)
- Creates vertical airflow through cavity
- Use inlet plugs to control airflow direction
Retrofit Installation
Required Tools
- 10mm masonry drill bit
- 8mm diameter x 100mm (min) mortar rake
- Hammer drill
- Safety equipment (goggles, dust mask, gloves)
- Spirit level
Step 1: Preparation
Identify existing weep vents or mark new positions:
- Locate existing weep vents or perpend joints
- Mark positions following building regulations
- Check for cables or pipes before drilling
- Ensure safe access to work area
Step 2: Drilling and Cleaning
Carefully create or clean openings:
- Drill out perpend joints with 10mm masonry bit
- Use mortar rake to clean debris from opening
- Ensure opening reaches cavity (minimum 100mm deep)
- Take care not to damage DPC, cavity trays, or lintels
- Clear all dust and debris from opening
Step 3: Vent Installation
Insert and secure Anti-Damp Vents:
- Push vent fully into cleaned opening
- Ensure vent sits flush with wall surface
- Check vent is level using spirit level
- Apply small amount of sealant if needed for secure fit
Important Safety Considerations
- Always wear appropriate safety equipment
- Check for electrical cables and water pipes before drilling
- Take extreme care not to damage DPC or cavity trays
- Work from stable platform when installing at height
- Consider professional installation for complex retrofits
Advanced Installation Techniques
Stack Effect Enhancement
Maximize moisture extraction by creating vertical airflow:
Installation Pattern:
- 1. Install vents at DPC level (standard spacing)
- 2. Install matching vents at ceiling level
- 3. Use inlet plugs on upper vents for extraction
- 4. Creates natural convection current
Targeting Problem Areas
Additional vents for specific moisture issues:
High-Risk Areas:
- • North-facing walls (reduced drying)
- • Near bathrooms/kitchens
- • Areas with visible damp issues
- • Corners and cold bridges
